Abstract:

There are several parameters that have significant influence in metal forming process. One of the most important of them is friction coefficient. Friction can change the pattern of metal flow and the force needed for deformation. It is necessary to determine the friction coefficient to study the effect of friction on metal forming process. This study is concerned with numerical and experimental studies on Ti-6Al-4V alloy by using T-shape friction test at elevated temperatures. B means of the FE simulations and experimental tests have been studied effects of parameters temperature, ram velocities, and die edge radius and friction conditions in T-shape friction test. Based on numerical results and experiment, by increasing the die speed, increasing the radius of edges, or reducing the temperature of experiment, sensitivity of friction in T-shape experiment is increased. At the end, flux curve of compression experiments, friction coefficient of T-shape experiment, and simulation in Deformer software were at a good agreement

Laser Powder Cladding of Ti-6Al-4V α/β Alloy

Laser cladding process was performed on a commercial Ti-6Al-4V (α + β) titanium alloy by means of tungsten carbide-nickel based alloy powder blend. Nd:YAG laser with a 2.2-KW continuous wave was used with coaxial jet nozzle coupled with a standard powder feeding system. Four-track deposition of a blended powder consisting of 60 wt % tungsten carbide (WC) and 40 wt % NiCrBSi was successfully mad...

Microstructural Evaluation of Ti-6AL-4V Alloy during Hot Deformation

Among the titanium alloys, Ti-6Al-4V is the most widely used. In the present work, the uniaxial hot compressive behavior of Ti-6Al-4V has been investigated under constant strain rates. A series of dilatometery experiments were carried out to determine the transformation temperatures at different cooling rates. Specimens were homogenized at 1050 °C for 10 minutes followed by fast cooling to dif...

Fatigue of Ti-6Al-4V

Metallic biomaterials have essentially three fields of use; these are the artificial hip joints, screw, plates and nails for internal fixation of fractures, and dental implants. Any of these devices must support high mechanical load and resistance of material against breakage is essential. High mechanical properties are needed for structural efficiency of surgical and dental implants. But their...
